Southern Backtones

After spending their musical childhood on the surf-punk playground, the Southern Backtones grew up quickly only to rebel against their roots rock heritage. By embracing Brit-pop and psychedelia, their creative adolescence was characterized by thrill-seeking behavior.

The 1998 release of "Los Tormentos de Amor" chronicles their nascent days: Clever ditties played with precocious passion, all owing allegiance to a strong "whatever-a-billy" influence in both writing and performance.

Then, in 2002, "The Formula" marks their adolescent rebellion. Their single "Fallen Angel" was chosen by Levi's as the campaign anthem for their Back to School campaign.

Their most recent album, simply self-titled "Southern Backtones," tracks their emergence into young adulthood: A mellowing of their roots-angst, leaving them ample energy to become who they were from the beginning-psychedelic savants who are constantly at risk of diluting their genius by over thinking their music.

The new year will herald the release of the Southern Backtones remarkable 4th album which fuses the best parts of the prior three albums with the Backtones mature voodoo-rock sound into a delightful psychedelic patois.
