Minneapolis’ finest rock band, The Melismatics, record an album that delivers the ingredients to a successful power pop, indie-rock album. The Melismatics is comprised of Ryan Smith- lead vocals and guitar; Mark Wade- bass and vocals; Pony- lead vocals, guitar, and synth; and Ron Caron- drums. The success of Melismatics is the product of years in the business and time spent on the road. The Melismatics have been featured on shows like MTV’s “The City” and “Laguna Beach,” NBC’s “Windfall” and recently won the voter-cast spot on Lollapalooza 2008. While there have been national successes for the band, they had already made a name for themselves in Minneapolis as a live act. The Melismatics went to SXSW and caught the eye of famed-producer John Fields (Switchfoot, The Jonas Brothers, Jimmy Eat World). What came out of the studio is a stellar album full of conviction and sincerity that delivers rock anthems that will get the attention of even the most ardent listener. “The Acid Test” features 10 tracks full of mesmerizing hooks and catching rhythms. For the band, the proof is in the listener’s journey through colorful landscapes of musical narrative. That team is now in full effect, and includes former booking agent and A&R rep, Mike Buenting, who signed on as manager of the band along lawyer Ken Abdo, who signed with them after their incendiary performance at SXSW in 2007. Now, with the combination of raw talent and industry wisdom, alongside a solid album as well, The Melismatics are in position to carve more than just a niche in this crazy business. Watch them grow.
